Apple iPad Hard Reset – Force restart on the tablet

How does iPad hard reset work to force restart? Here you will find the answer to this question. Below I have summarized the procedure for restarting the Apple tablet. This should help you with troubleshooting if the iPad display freezes, the device no longer responds to input and other solutions do not help. This guide is divided into the two current device types: those with Face ID or Touch ID buttons and those with a home button.

Instructions: Force restart the Apple iPad if the device is frozen, no longer responds to input and cannot be switched off. Here you can find all the information about the procedure.

Force restart iPad – devices with Face ID or Touch ID button

If you can unlock your Apple tablet with your face or if the fingerprint sensor is in the button at the top of the device, then use these instructions for the hard reset. To be able to turn the iPad off and turn it on again if it no longer responds to input, follow these steps:

  1. Very briefly press the volume button that is closest to the top button
  2. Very briefly press the volume button that is furthest away from the top button
  3. Hold down the top button until the Apple logo on the display confirms the restart

Force restart iPad – devices with home button

Devices without Face ID and Touch ID sensor in the top button can also be restarted with a hard reset. However, a different approach must be used here; the volume buttons don't play a role. If you want to restart your Apple iPad with the home button when the display is frozen, here's how to do it:

  1. Press and hold the top button and the home button
  2. Only release the two buttons when the Apple logo appears on the display
  3. Wait for the iPad to finish booting

“Hard Reset” does not mean that the device will be reset

When you carry out the measures described above, you don't have to worry about the data on your Apple tablet being deleted. This option for solving the problem has nothing to do with a “reset” in the sense of resetting. What can happen, however, is that unsaved data and projects that were open at the time of the iPad crash are lost or not saved properly. But this is a problem that exists with every app and system freezing or crashing, whether iPad, iPhone, Mac, PC or other devices.

  1. It would be great if the procedure described worked. But it doesn't work.
    I got the message “inserting… iMac”…
If I proceed as described, only the button to switch it off appears... Since the tablet no longer responds... brr..
Device without home button… by the way…

    Any help?
