Strong performance thanks to M2 Max and M2 Ultra

The new M2 Ultra is even used in the new Mac Pro, which differs from the Mac Studio in that it has six PCIe slots for additional hardware. If you don't want to use additional memory, sound, graphics or network cards, you can use the power of the M2 Ultra with the Mac Studio. That also costs less. Furthermore, it represents a noticeable leap in performance compared to the previous models from last year. Apple also thinks that the M2 Ultra completes the M2 product family. That means there will be no "M2 Extreme" and the next leap in performance will come in 2024 at the earliest with the M3 Max and the M3 Ultra.

"The M2 Ultra delivers amazing performance and capabilities that satisfy even the most demanding workflows of our pro users, without sacrificing the industry-leading energy efficiency of Apple chips' said Johny Srouji, Apple's senior vice president of hardware technologies. "The huge jumps in performance of the CPU, GPU and Neural Engine combined with the enormous memory bandwidth in each individual SoC make the M2 Ultra the most powerful chip ever developed for a desktop computer. As you can see in the table above, both chips eligible for the Mac Studio 2023 can be selected in a version with more GPU cores in order to be able to use the best graphics performance.
