The new Apple MacBook Pro with 14,2-inch display is available in different versions. These result from the combination of the M1-Pro or M1-Max configuration, the selected RAM and the size of the SSD memory. The cheaper M1-Pro model (8-core CPU, 14-core GPU) comes with a 67W power supply to charge the battery. However, this does not allow the use of the quick charge function, which brings up to 30% battery capacity in just 50 minutes. For this, the 96W power supply must be ordered for an additional 20 euros. You can find out when it's free here.
Chapter in this post:
Use the Apple MacBook Pro 14 ″ fast charge function
Fast charging of the smaller of the two new MacBook Pros from Apple does not work with the 67W USB-C power adapter from Apple, neither via the new MagSafe 3 port nor via one of the three Thunderbolt 4 ports with USB-C. In order to charge the lithium polymer battery with 70 watt hours by 50% within half an hour, you need at least the 96W USB-C power adapter.
However, this is already the case with the second smallest M1 Pro configuration (with 10 cores CPU) included and of course also with the M1 Max options. These can also be combined with up to 64 GB of RAM. Of course, all of this requires power. You only have to worry about an additional charge of 20 euros for the 96W power supply with the cheapest MacBook Pro from 2021.
Use the Apple MacBook Pro 16 ″ fast charge function
If you've had a look at the 16-inch model, then you can rest assured. Because for its lithium-polymer battery with 100 watt hours, all SoC configurations (both M1 Pro as well as M1 Max) a 140W USB-C power adapter. This enables fast charging via the MagSafe 3 connection and the three Thunderbolt 4 ports.
For the latter, a USB-C toUSB-C cable be used that supports this service. In addition to the aforementioned charger, a USB-C to MagSafe cable with a length of 2 meters is included in the scope of delivery for charging the battery.
