Travel and sustainability usually don't go together that well. We go on vacation by plane, help ourselves to overcrowded buffets and while we drink water from plastic bottles during the day, the air conditioning has to ensure a good night's sleep at night. That at least all of that ein bisschen Chris Kaiser wants to ensure with B'n'Tree that it becomes more sustainable. The abbreviation in the name of his start-up project stands for “Bed and Tree”, ie bed (for accommodation) and tree. Because for every booking made with a partner of the company, it plants at least one tree - similar to the search engine recently presented Ecosia.
Chapter in this post:
B'n'Tree - At least one tree per booking
So that everyone can ensure that something good is done when booking a holiday, B'n'Tree not (only) cooperates with niche providers, but with the big names in the tourism business. Partners include Booking.com, HRS, Best Western (since this month), Hotels.com, Skyscanner, Expedia, TripAdvisor, Agoda and Hostelworld. Whether it's a flight, hotel, package holiday or a bed in a hostel, a tree should be planted with every booking. In the meantime, 75,770 trees are said to have provided 788 working days; and that in 9 countries:
- North America: USA
- South America: Ecuador, Brazil
- Africa: Madagascar, Kenya
- Asia: Thailand, Indonesia, Nepal, India
- As of June 25, 2019
B'n'Tree website, blog, YouTube videos and more
As I understand it, the company is mainly founded by the founder, Chris Kaiser. It also suggests that as a contact on the official website the company name Now Is The Time eK (registered businessman) is given. On the “About” page of the website you will also find the corresponding supporters such as NABU BW, Gründerküche, L-Bank, HOGA-Presse, the European Commission and many more. There are also current updates on the site's blog; in video form you can also find them on the Chris Kaiser's YouTube channel. Much work that he undertakes; but for a good cause. And that is commendable.
It's that “simple”: Affiliate links
Basically, the cooperation with the named partners, or at least most of them, works via affiliate links. This is also known from Amazon, eBay and Co. You attach your ID to the URL of the provider, the latter recognizes where the user is from, and the source receives a commission if the deal is successful. The source here is B'n'Tree, and the destination is Skyscanner, HRS, Trip Advisor and so on. Only that the affiliate income does not flow completely into your own pocket, into the company or into the website, but also into regions that need reforestation. So if you are planning a vacation, why not just one more click about this page do? Nothing costs except two seconds of your time;)
