Customs auction: Buy seized and confiscated items online

Did you know that there is an official online auction house run by the federal, state and local governments? On the website Zoll-Auktion.de There are seized, secured, confiscated and found items that have become the property of the offeror after the respective waiting period. With the search term “Apple” you can currently find a package of five iPhones of different vintages on the platform, which are being auctioned by the city of Frankfurt am Main. But a Macintosh Classic II including packaging, instructions, accessories, software disks and colorful stickers is also offered - from the city of Mönchengladbach. You can find more details in this post.

General information about the customs auction platform

Unlike classified ads or eBay, with customs auctions you can be sure that you will not fall victim to fraud. Paying without receiving the goods, phishing or other problems should not occur. However, the range is quite limited and, depending on the reason for the transfer of ownership, may show signs of wear or may be offered “for hobbyists”, i.e. with the need for repairs.

That's why - as with all other second-hand platforms on the Internet - it is practical and sensible to take a thorough look at and read through the individual item pages. This way you can find out exactly what is on offer, what condition you can expect, etc. Also: read the terms and conditions! The general terms and conditions summarize everything you need to know about using the platform and purchasing the auction items.

Do I have to pick up the goods or is there shipping?

As with classified ads or eBay, this cannot be generalized for customs auctions. Because while you have to go to the customs office for orders from abroad that are held up by customs, this does not always apply to seized, seized, confiscated and found items on the website. Shipping options may be specified on the respective offer page.

These are accompanied by shipping costs that must be paid in addition to the highest bid. Depending on the distance, it's worth it, as a trip across Germany costs fuel and time. In the following screenshot you can see, for example: B. the auction page mentioned at the beginning for the Apple Macintosh Classic II. For this, the options “Pickup” and “Shipping” are given, with corresponding shipping costs for Germany, the EU and the rest of Europe.

    1. It is always there if they have an activation lock. Then you can only use them as a spare parts warehouse.

    2. Hello Timewalkers,

On the one hand, the condition is described on the auction pages, and on the other hand, there are usually contact details for contact persons. Therefore you can ask directly.

If there is no information or you don't get a (clear) answer, you probably shouldn't strike. But that's the case with all online used sales.

      Best regards
      John
