Block unwanted number on Apple iPhone

If you block a number, you won't get calls, FaceTime calls, or messages from that person. Blocking a phone number can also help prevent spam calls and phone or message spam. There are two different ways to do this on iOS.

Block iPhone contacts from calls and messages

If the number to be blocked is in Contacts (the iOS phone book), you can do the following:

  1. Open the phone app (green icon with white handset) on your iPhone
  2. Select the "Contacts" tab from the overview at the bottom of the screen
  3. Then tap on a contact so that their data appears
  4. Scroll all the way down in this overview
  5. Tap "Block Caller" to block iPhone contact

Tip: This procedure only works with the phone app. When you access the contact card from the Contacts app, there is no "Block caller" menu item at the bottom.

Block more numbers in the Phone app

If you have not saved the number to be blocked or you just want to block a number directly via another tab of the phone app, you can do this on the iPhone as well:

  1. Opens the phone app (green icon with white handset) on the Apple smartphone
  2. Select one of the tabs "Favorites", "Call list" or "Voicemail" below
  3. Next to the number/person in question, tap the i in the circle on the far right
  4. Scrolls all the way down in the displayed overview
  5. Tap "Block caller" to add the number/person to the block list

Manage blocked numbers and contacts on iOS

To view and manage your block list, open the settings on your Apple smartphone. Then you select “Telephone” from the overview. In this subcategory, you now tap on the item “Blocked Contacts”. Here you will find a list of unwanted numbers, people, email addresses and so on. If you tap on "Edit" in the top right, you can remove individual entries and thus allow the respective person, company or other caller to be contacted again.

Forward unknown callers and advertising calls to voicemail

Want to only see a call if it's from a known contact and send the rest to voicemail? That works too! To do this, simply choose again Settings -> Phone and uses e.g. B. the “Mute Unknown Callers” option. There is also the "Block and Identify Calls" option, thanks to which one can use the "Mute Advertisement Callers" option. However, this is only possible with some network operators. These provide the list for numbers known for spam and scams.
