iPhone display too big and zoomed in? This is how you solve the problem!

accessibility zoom post image

I always enjoy browsing the Mac, iPhone, and Apple Reddit threads because you can always find interesting news and issues to report on. Today I came across a question from a reader who showed his dad's iPhone that just had huge writing on it. Somehow everything was zoomed in very close and swiping with a finger had no effect. A problem that was new for me too.

This is what it looks like when zoom for the visually impaired is activated on the iPhone (Photos: Sir Apfelot).

Solution: Turn off zoom in accessibility features

You actually can't achieve the effect with the huge font if you have the iPhone in the standard settings. The reason is that this zoom effect is a help for people with poor eyesight. You have to activate the function first before you can actually trigger it.

You can find the setting here:

  1. Settings
  2. Accessibility
  3. Zoom
  4. Enable/disable zoom

You can also find this explanation of the function there:

Zoom enlarges the entire screen

  • Double-tap with 3 fingers to zoom
  • Drag with 3 fingers to move on the screen
  • To change the zoom, double-tap and move with 3 fingers
Here you can see the way to the zoom function via the settings.

So the solution to the giant font thing is:

  1. Double-tap with 3 fingers to zoom everything out.
  2. Then go to Accessibility → Deactivate Zoom so that it cannot be activated again accidentally.

So, if you ever come across an iPhone with giant icons or giant font, you now know how to fix the problem. I've never had this case before, but I'm sure you'll be able to use it at some point. 😊

And if you ever have trouble with your iPhone, iPad, Mac or another Apple product, please leave me a comment with your question or description of the problem here or write me an email (can be found in the imprint). I like to try to solve it and then it ends up here on the blog so that other readers can also benefit from it. Thanks to you!

  1. The zoom setting overreacted and now I can't get into any settings - the image on the iPhone no longer moves - nothing works anymore! What can I do? I can't turn it off either.

    1. Hello Sabine! Switching off should always work. Hold down the side button for a long time and the dialog for switching off or emergency call should appear. Please be sure to select “Switch off” and not “Emergency call”. 😊 But you should also make the display smaller again with a double tap with 3 fingers at the same time. Test this so you can deactivate the option.
