I occasionally go to Amazon looking for accessories for the Meta Quest 2. In one such search I came across a spotlight that is said to help when the Quest 2 is having trouble in low light.
The bad light solution for infrequent readers: Get the little one Infrared auxiliary light from NEWZEROL and you can play in complete darkness with the VR headset.
I was so impressed by the effect of this infrared lamp that I gave it the award "Pick of the week“ begrudge.
According to the product description, the invisible lighting also seems to work with the Pico 4 and the PS VR2. But I couldn't test that because I only own Quest 2.
Chapter in this post:
IR light instead of room lighting
What do you do if the VR glasses don't work properly because there is no daylight? Of course, in this case you can simply switch on the light in the room, but in my specific case that's not so great: My office has no curtains and it's great to look in in the evening.
The people here in the village already think I'm a bit gaga because I occasionally ride around on my electric unicycle. If you then see me fidgeting around in the office with VR glasses in the evening, my reputation will probably be completely ruined.
That's why I was immediately interested in the invisible infrared light, which is said to make it possible to play in complete darkness.
IR emitters in the test
I got the NEWZEROL IR emitter and tried it out in my office. There were a few people on the product page asking if this thing would work for large rooms or if you have to buy two.
My result: A single infrared spotlight illuminated my 40 square meter office so well that I could play in complete darkness without the Quest 2 having even the slightest tracking problem.
Even when I turned away from the headlight, there were no problems.

- Night Vision - With the help of infrared light, you can see objects clearly even in the dark, phones, water and snacks...
The power consumption of the radiator is also low. It only took up 5 watts when I measured it. A toggle switch is also installed on the power cable so that you can easily switch off the lamp.
My conclusion
In my opinion, the small IR light is a must-have for Meta Quest 2 players. I've often had tracking problems in the evenings - especially in winter - because the daylight was getting too dark. Of course, this always happens when a horde of zombies comes running in After the Fall or when you almost made the next round in Superhot VR.
Lamp by NEWZEROL these problems are a thing of the past. Even with my large room and no daylight or other lighting, one IR emitter was sufficient. So a good buy that I would repeat in a heartbeat if I had to.
