No, I don't travel much and actually don't need the pillow as much for car, bus or train journeys. For me, the intended use was more of a hammock or a sofa, since I'm a big fan of naps and power naps.
When choosing the right travel pillow for power naps, I ended up with a memory foam pillow, which I mean for you tip of the week want to introduce.
Once you start researching a travel pillow, you can find all sorts of things. Starting with the classic neck pillow, to these power nap bags you should stick your head in, to inflatable travel pillows.
I've tried a few of these, but since I always sleep on my side and don't really get any sleep sitting up, a perfectly normal pillow is my best bet.
Inflatable Travel Pillow vs Memory Foam Pillow
I toyed with both options but ended up with memory foam as an inflated pillow isn't exactly soft. If you let the air out a bit, they just get wobbly, but not really soft.
In terms of pack size, however, the inflatable cushions are likely to be ahead, since you only have to stow away the cover.
My decision to go with memory foam was definitely the best choice for me, because the pillow is super comfortable, packs away easily in the stuff sack that comes with it, and it even has a soft cover that you can remove and wash.
This is what it looks like when you take the pillow straight out of the bag. It is then completely “relaxed” within 10 to 20 seconds.
"Third of Life" travel pillow with memory foam
The pillow I chose is from Third of Life and, according to their information, is filled with "CosyPUR foam from BASF". To my understanding and my feeling, that's memory foam in the pillow.
You press it in and when you lift your hand, the shape is retained for a moment. This causes the pillow to be a good mix between "firm" and "soft". It supports the head, but does not press on a specific point, but distributes the pressure over the entire contact surface.
The pillow is perfect for side sleepers because it supports the head - at least for me - at the right height and you don't get a kink in your neck.
Here you can see the pillow in the supplied transport bag, in which you can pack the rolled-up travel pillow.
Here I have put together all the "technical data" of the pillow:

Yes, I know the pillow is definitely not the cheapest you can find, but I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
My wife stopped by my place yesterday and saw the pillow - she's always interested in the great gadgets that come to me every day because of the blog. After a quick touch and squeeze of the pillow, she just said: "Oh, that's great! Where is that?
That means she would immediately take the small travel pillow as her main pillow if the thing came in a larger size. I don't think a travel pillow gets any higher praise, because my wife is really sensitive when it comes to her choice of pillow.
