Detachable and reattachable Apple Watch protective glass
I go rock climbing occasionally and have never taken off my Apple Watch for the occasion. Despite my caution, I have occasionally gotten stuck on a climbing hold during a movement and have given the Apple Watch a hit - fortunately without consequences so far. I've temporarily put bulletproof glass on the display, but I gave it up for two reasons:
1. For me, every glass seems like a foreign body on the watch.
2. There are no reasonable armored glasses that effectively protect the rounded edges of the display.
And overall, I couldn't get used to having a protective glass on my Apple Watch all the time, even though I don't need it most of the time. I go rock climbing maybe once a week and do the occasional gardening that is really a display hazard. Otherwise my activities are relatively harmless for the Apple Watch.

The solution: protection that can be removed
I'm looking for a protective cover like the one you know from the iPhone clip-on cover from the company LK encountered This consists of a clear protective glass (not sure if it's glass) surrounded by a frame, which in my case is black plastic. The practical thing about this Apple Watch protector is that you can attach it without removing the watch or even detaching the bracelet from the watch. This means that you can clip the protection onto the watch in a few seconds before exercising and then remove it again afterwards. Simply the perfect solution for me, because I don't really want permanent protection, but I can protect the Apple Watch from damage all around if necessary. And I like the quick attachment and detachment so much that I use the protective cover for the Pick of the week free.
The case is open at the bottom and can be clipped onto the Apple Watch from above.

When attaching the case, it is first slipped over the crown and then pressed onto the watch. A process that only takes a few seconds.

Beware of dust and grains of sand
However, the protective cover still poses a small risk, because if dust or small grains of sand get lost on the inside, there is a risk that they will be between the protective glass and the display glass when you put them on the watch and scratch the display. To prevent this, the screen protector always ends up in the small bag that came with the product to protect it during transport.
There are two protective covers in one pack and here you can also see the small bags in which each protective cover is packed.

Operation in the swimming pool not possible
I haven't tried it, but the manufacturer noted that while you can take the Apple Watch into the water with the case on, it won't work even if you're out of the water again because of the water between the protective glass and the display collects. Due to the water in the gap, the touch controls no longer work properly, but this can be quickly remedied by removing the protective cover and drying the display glass.
The watch with the protective case is not as pretty as before, but the protective function is definitely good.

When does WWDC23 take place and what will be presented?
Like every year, the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) will certainly take place again in June this year at Apple. But when is the WWDC23 date? From when to when can developers get advice, exchange ideas, get help and take a first look at new operating systems? Below you will find the latest information and rumors about it. This article also provides an overview of the systems and devices that will be used as part of the kick-offKeynote (could) be presented at WWDC 2023. When will WWDC23 and its keynote take place?
The Apple World Wide Developers Conference usually takes place in the first half of June each year, often in the first full week of the month. Possible periods for WWDC23 would be from June 5th to 9th, 2023 or from June 12th to 16th, 2023:
- 05.06. until 09.06.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX: first full week in June of this year
- 12.06. until 16.06.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX: is also in the first half of the month
The opening keynote of this special working week, as the opening presentation with new content for the public, will of course take place again on the appropriate Monday (June 5th or 12th), most likely at 10:00 a.m. local time in Cupertino. Will WWDC23 be onsite or just online?
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, WWDC 2020 took place completely online for the first time. This was continued in 2021 and 2022. However, Apple has partially returned to on-site events in recent months. It is therefore possible that at least parts of WWDC23 will again take place face-to-face in Apple Park and its Steve Jobs Theater. Which Apple operating systems will be presented in June 2023?
As every year, we can expect new operating systems for the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch to take center stage. These will again provide new, improved or otherwise changed functions in order to get even more out of the devices. In addition, new beta versions with innovations in the operating systems for Apple TV, the HomePod and the like will certainly be released again. These aren't always presented during the opening keynote, but are interesting as well.
- iOS 17 for iPhone and iPod touch: The new iPhone operating system iOS 17 could as well as iOS 16 come up with a few surprises in 2022. New design options, additional security functions, more efficient background processes and the like are possible.
- iPadOS 17 for iPad: The new iPad operating system, iPadOS 17, could bring new multitasking options, support for additional peripherals, new technologies for pencil use, and so on to the Apple tablet. But also completely unexpected things.
- macOS 14 for Mac: The new Mac operating system macOS 14 will certainly only run on Apple computers that have an "Apple Silicon" SoC (M chip). A further adaptation to the mobile systems as well as overlapping functions could be the focus. Maybe this year there will also be an integration of AI.
- watchOS 10 for Apple Watch: The new watchOS 10 watch operating system could bring new features for health and fitness if it follows the previous systems. A new training detection and / or new automations for the recording of training sessions are just as conceivable as new triggers for emergency calls or health reports.
- More systems: In addition, either as keynote content or only as beta versions during the rest of WWDC23, the new tvOS 17 for the Apple TV, the HomePod software 17 and so on. New smart home functions are conceivable for both of these, but also possibilities for networking in the house and with contacts all over the world.
Introducing the latest M2 version, the M3 chip and new Mac models
The introduction of new "Apple Silicon" chips could follow a certain cycle in the coming years. I already showed the train of thought behind it two weeks ago in the article “New iMac to be launched with M3 chip (+ more Mac news)“. The M23 Ultra could therefore be presented as part of the WWDC2 keynote, which could be accompanied by the presentation of the new Mac Pro and possibly a new Mac Studio. In addition to the latest M2 version, the M3 chip could also be presented directly, with a new iMac, MacBook Air and the like. Perhaps only the M2 Ultra and Macs equipped with it will be presented; and then the M3 in the fall. It remains exciting!
Also expected for June: mixed reality headset with xrOS
On the one hand it is said to have been postponed again and again, on the other hand Tim Cook himself is supposed to push for a quick introduction. We are of course talking about Apple's mixed reality headset, which is available as a VR and AR device under the name "reality pro"Or"reality one' could be presented. In addition to the new hardware, which is said to work without an iPhone, Mac or other additional device, there is also a new operating system. How Apple is trying to prevent mass layoffs
Several tech companies, not a few from Silicon Valley in California, have made negative headlines in recent months by laying off more than 50.000 employees. But while Meta, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Twitter and Co. are cutting the jobs and while the Silicon Valley Bank went bust is, since Apple seems to be able to keep the positions of permanent employees. In his “Power On” newsletter, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman highlighted the underlying strategies. In the following you will find the most important points translated and presented in summary form.
Tech companies like Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, Twitter and Google are using layoffs to cut costs. Apple seems to be trying to go the other way. Savings are being made in numerous places to keep employees. Here you will find a summary of the known measures.

Apple's measures against possible mass layoffs
While the competition has laid off more than 50.000 people - in total almost half of all Apple employees - the iPhone manufacturer seems to be more secure in the saddle. But Apple is also struggling with lower sales, higher interest rates, the consequences of the pandemic and other problems in the market. The company is known for planning far ahead and acting extremely tactically. A wave of layoffs would be interpreted either as haphazardness on the part of Apple or as a sign that the economy is even worse than expected. What it will look like in one or two years' time cannot be predicted with any certainty at the moment. However, when looking at Apple's current measures, it becomes clear that many attempts are being made to avoid the fate of the other technology giants - and thus also (further) negative headlines about the workforce. In the following I have listed what Apple has been trying to do to prevent layoffs since last summer and what differences to the other companies have ensured that the iPhone manufacturer is currently in a slightly more stable position:
- Apple hasn't hired excessively in 2020 and 2021 like Microsoft and Meta - companies that are now having to lay off people and dismantle teams again because their plans didn't work out.
- Since the summer of 2022, Apple has been cutting costs in several areas and making processes more efficient so that they become cheaper.
- Bonuses for teams, which are otherwise paid out twice a year, are now paid out collectively in October so that Apple can use the money operationally for longer.
- Some projects, e.g. B. for upcoming smart home devices, are deferred so that parts of their funds can be used for research and development of more important projects.
- The budgets are now also being looked at more closely, and expenses or additional expenses currently have to be approved by senior managers.
- New hires have been completely paused in some teams, drastically reduced in other teams.
- In addition, some positions are not filled again if the relevant people leave the company.
- The possibility of moving employees to other departments or shop staff to other locations has been restricted, as this also involves additional costs.
- Last year, Apple terminated contracts with recruiters who were not permanent employees.
- In the last few weeks, contract workers from engineering teams and other groups have also been let go or their contracts have not been renewed.
- Travel budgets have been drastically reduced and business trips now require VP approval. In some departments, business trips have been completely discontinued.
- Managers also seem to be increasingly enforcing office attendance (currently planned for Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Apple). It is suspected that an excuse is being sought here to fire people who do not want to do this or who want to stay in the home office.
- In sales outlets, more attention is paid to the hours of attendance. It is also assumed here that people should be fired if they cannot work the required hours. Or they should be persuaded to resign, which would be cheaper for the company.
- In addition, hours should not be replaced in the case of sick leave. And Apple continues to do away with the "special sick leave" it introduced for Covid-19 illnesses. Anyone who falls ill with Covid must take regular sick days.
- The number of terminations is also said to increase in sales outlets – allegedly for standard reasons and not to force savings. Some of the positions that become vacant in this way are not filled again.
Mass layoffs cannot be ruled out at Apple either
Mark Gurman concludes his comments on the current measures, which seem to be working well at the moment, by saying that they certainly do not please everyone in the workforce. On the other hand, they are comparatively mild and an alternative to mass redundancies for the purpose of "normal" implementation of company processes. Certainly it can be seen as an advantage if someone is cut off from business travel and bonuses in the short term if that person can keep the job and probably continue to do it safely. But you should never say "never", because even the manufacturer of iPhone, Mac, AirPods and Co. is not safe from the real world. And the times when a visionary Apple CEO makes the world his own way have been over since 2011 at the latest. The last few years have shown that the world holds unpredictable scenarios (or scenarios that experts can predict, but not taken into account by the general public and the market) that mean extremely disruptive factors. Tim Cook, Apple's current CEO, has described layoffs as a "last resort."
Desertec - Desert electricity as a solution to energy problems
I just watched a video on YouTube about the "Desertec" Foundation, which is pursuing an interesting approach to meet global energy needs with renewable resources from the deserts of the world. This project has the potential to solve the energy problems of the future and protect the environment in the long term. Due to the focus on desert areas, The foundation also likes to be associated with the term "desert stream". With this article, I would like to simply give a rough overview of the foundation and draw some attention to it. At the same time, not only should the positive effects of the Desertec projects be mentioned, but also the possible negative effects are shown.

The vision of the Desertec Foundation
Desertec is a foundation that aims to use desert power as a solution to the global energy problems. It is based on the idea of building solar power plants in desert areas in order to use the enormous solar energy of these regions. However, Desertec does not want to build the solar parks itself, but rather contribute to the progress of these projects. Here are some facts about the foundation and the desert power projects:
- Founded in 2009 by a group of European companies and institutions

Why Desert Power?
The use of desert power offers numerous advantages for the environment and the global energy supply. Some of these advantages are:
- High solar radiation in desert areas enables efficient energy production
- Reducing dependency on fossil fuels and related emissions
- Promoting sustainable development in North Africa and the Middle East
- Potential for job creation and economic growth
challenges and criticisms
Despite the many advantages, there are also some challenges and points of criticism that are discussed in the context of the Desertec project. Here are some criticisms of the company highlighted by various sources:
