The VR/AR and MR headset from Apple, which has been awaited by the trade press and investors, has recently been on the menu in the rumor mill. With virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) in one device, the Apple headset expected for January 2023 should be able to deliver mixed reality (MR) experiences. And while with reality OS the name of the operating system should have been fixed for a long time, the name of the device itself was previously unknown. However, an Apple shell company is said to have registered the names "Reality One", "Reality Pro" and "Reality Processor" as trademarks.
Apple seems to want to use the name Reality One for its VR/AR headset. This and other reality brand names were submitted by at least a front company and have yet to be confirmed (or rejected).
The reality one it could be the name of the expected VR/AR headset. With Reality Processor could mean the SoC (System on a Chip), which is on a M2 Apple Silicon should be built with 16 GB of RAM. Whether with reality pro a higher-class headset is meant (as with iPhone and iPhone Pro or iPad and iPad Pro) or whether it is another chip - for example for an additional video calculation for the high-resolution displays in the headset and at the same time for an external display - that's not quite clear. It is also not yet 100 percent certain whether the names will be able to assert themselves at all.
Brand names have not yet been awarded to Apple
Because like Bloomberg in an extensive Articles explains, the three brand names have so far only been submitted by an Apple shell company in an application process. According to the Bloomberg article, this happened in places like the US, Canada, the EU, the UK, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica and Uruguay. The requests for the brand names were submitted by Immersive Health Solutions LLC, such as, among others here at Trademark Elite for the EU market. The law firm HERBST | BRÖCKER from Berlin listed. So an interesting network that is being tried to keep devices more or less secret before the release.
What is the headset supposed to be good for?
The linked Bloomberg article speculates that certain apps such as Maps or FaceTime should be released for the virtual environment. And it should also be possible to watch films or sporting events with the device. But the added value here is not yet clear to me. Apple also hasn't made any forays into the Metaverse (What is a metaverse / metaverse?) or similar virtual spaces. With the RealityKit there is a developer and with the reality composer a user solution for VR and AR applications, but no app or platform is really known here either. It is possible that the Apple MR headset will find medical use for the time being. That also implies the submission of the brand names by Immersive Health Solutions LLC.
