  1. I received such a pretty card as a gift - from a friendly person from Austria.
When I tried to redeem them in the AppStore, I got the message that this was only possible in the Austrian AppStore. And indeed: on the back of the card it actually says in the small print of the small print (hardly legible without a microscope) »Valid only for […] and in the online shops available in Austria«.
With my "German" Macbook pro, I can't redeem the card even if I'm in Austria.
Considering that a gift card is probably not an uncommon purchase for non-Apple users, Apple should manage to make this limitation LEGABLE to avoid disappointment. In any case, I can't bring myself to tell my donor, an elderly gentleman, that he "did something wrong"...

  2. In the meantime, I have contacted Apple support with a request to transfer the gift card to my account and also with the suggestion that at least the country connection be recognizable, for example with a legible country code such as "D" or "A" on the Front.

    The answer was:

»The only options left are that you pass the card on to someone with an Austrian account or that the buyer of the card contacts the point of sale to inquire about a refund.
Cards cannot be exchanged for another country, so we cannot make this card available for your Apple ID.
    Thank you for your understanding."

Well, yes, my understanding is limited. With the whole super-international appearance of Apple, the country connection is an indictment. And that the exchange of tickets should be "not possible" is somehow pathetic.
    Too bad.

    1. Understandable... I wouldn't understand either. Apple support doesn't seem to be any good in this area. But when I've had problems with my Mac, they've always been super helpful. But as I said: I can fully understand the frustration with the gift cards.
