Wordpress 3.5 Upgrade - Issues with empty post editor

Wordpress is a great thing, but the updates don't always work as they should!

After boldly uploading the upgrade to Wordpress 3.5 to my blog, I thought everything went smoothly. However, when I wanted to edit an older post after the upgrade, I was only shown an empty space in the post editor instead of my text. I then browsed the forums a bit and lo and behold: There were others who also had the problem. The first workaround to the problem is adding this line to wp-config.php:

define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);

With that everything ran again for the time being, but I had read that you shouldn't leave it like that forever, because it generates considerably more data traffic than if you run WP without this line. So after the post was changed, I started looking for a final solution to the problem.
Some users have posted that the plugin BPS - Bullet Proof Security could create something like that. Some users had the plugin running and since it also changed the .htaccess file, those changes were still active long after the plugin was deactivated. So you should fill the htaccess file with the standard WordPress code:

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

# END WordPress

Unfortunately, after that was done, things still didn't work for me. I slowly got the feeling that I was the big exception again, where everything was different from the others. To be on the safe side, I deactivated all plugins again for testing (I simply renamed the “Plugins” folder to “-Plugins”. And I activated the Wordpress Default Theme so that I could also rule out the theme as a source of error. The result: Still no text in the editor window!

Well, as a last idea, I did a general search again for errors that occur after installing Wordpress 3.5. have appeared. There I found an entry that suggested a solution to simply re-upload the entire Wordpress via FTP. No sooner said than done - and what can I say: It worked!

This fixed the first quirks after the WP 3.5 upgrade. But I want to make it exciting: There will be another article on the topic. Because today I found another nice quirk. But more about that soon! :)
